There are numerous ways in which we avoid being with ourselves, as we are scared of being ourselves, and thus we start to put attention on outside objects. Taking care of the dog, raising the cats at home, they are not such a headache as having a partner, they don’t respond like a partner does. To make life easy, watch TV and eat chips. We find numbers of ways to go away from ourselves. Reading books can be an excuse for giving ourselves inspiration. How much inspiration do we need? So many books already read, so many more to read, and inspiration often is just an illusion, just a dream. The more books we read the more cunning we become, we will know how to react when interacting with others, we can give a better reply in a conversation and win it, not to seek truth, not to be genuine, but to win and be cunning. More reading means gathering more information, often it is not helpful, it is not changing your life. If you feel a book would be really useful, read one part and implement it in life, then read the next one, implementing that one. Whichever way you go about it, don’t use a book as an escape from yourself. Someone may feel that if they don’t read they might turn to uglier things, like violence, crime, gambling or simply finding other ways to pass and waste time. Have you ever wondered why generally there is more energy in a young person than in an older one? One reason is, because the younger are cluttered with less thoughts. Thoughts to waste energy, and as we grow old we have more thoughts and spend more energy thinking them. Experiment and be strict, whenever you realize you are talking unnecessarily stop right there, don’t finish the sentence, and do your best not to repeat it. Laugh at that moment itself if necessary. By laughing the connection with the mind is broken. If the laughter is coming from the heart the thoughts reduce even more, and if you laugh harder than that then it comes from the hara and thoughts are gone. The thinking process reduces the moment we start laughing.
